A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things, and an evil man out of the evil treasure brings forth evil things. Matt 12:35
We are today, the decisions of yesterday. If we desire a better tomorrow we must make a better quality decision today. Most people have never been taught how to make quality decisions. In this day and age we must be able to make great quality decisons in order to redeem the time and maximize every moment.
The first thing that we must understand about making a descision is that no one can make the decision for you. Even if you get advice and direction, you are responsible for the decision making. In order for us to make a good decision we must first decide to manage our state of mind. Our scripture verse says, “A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good things”. We must possess the right state of mind in order to make the right decision. If we desire to make good decisions we will need to possess a good state of mind.
The nature of man is that we do what we feel like doing, not necessarily what we know to do. What we know is what we believe, what we believe becomes what we value, what we value stimulates a feeling and that feeling is what we obey. The issue that becomes our belief, or state of mind, may not be founded on the Word of God. God’s thoughts are always higher than any of our circumstances. Higher than any issue that may arise. I believe that God always feels good about Himself, His thoughts, His ways, His deeds, and His decisions. The constant state of good allows God to be above everything that would try to knock Him down. The best part is that you and I are made in His image and likeness. We too should also feel good about ourselves. If we feel good about ourselves we will also be more inclined to make good decisions. Good people feel good about themselves and bring forth good things through good decision making.
If you feel bad about yourself you will be more likely to make a bad decision. We often reference the results of a bad decision from the past in the moment of making a decision, which will make a person feel even worse. A decision made from a place of defeat or weakness can only bring forth the same fruit of its own kind.
What I am not saying is that we should make decision that makes us feel good. We must get full of joy before we make a decision. When we don’t feel good, we hope and trust that this very next decision will be the one that will turn everything around and make us feel good. Yet, if we can feel good before we choose our spouse, then we will not put unrealistic demands on our spouse to make us feel good. If we feel good before we get that job, then we will perform better on the job. If we feel good before we make the amount of money that we desire, we will make that money faster. Our feelings must be grounded in something that is not a time, place, or circumstance, but our feelings must be grounded outside of time, places, and circumstances. Where is that? In eternity, anchored at the throne through the knowledge of the Word of God. Before you make your next decision, read God’s Word and enter into His presence, adjust your feelings, and then make your decisions. Then every one of your decisions will be from strength and joy.
